Face Claim: N/A
Nicknames: Kari
Age: 14
Gender: Female
Digivice:
Appearance:
Physically, Kari is considered a very average-sized girl, small in comparison to a few of her other female friends, but nowhere near that of a "shrimp". At age fourteen she stands at only four feet and eleven inches, weighing at roughly 85 lbs for her height. Her build is somewhat willowy, with thin-seeming, angular joints and curvatures, giving her a less-than-curvaceous figure despite her age. There is one prominent thing, however; rather than having even proportions, Kari's legs are much longer than her torso, and while it is often difficult to notice, it is a true occurence in her physical build.
Kari's hairstyle is that of a simple one, with her hair falling only to her chin in the front and a bit shorter in the back. Her hair is a shade of light brown, the colour of damp sand, though perhaps closer to a shade of plain leather. As a child, she used to wear her bangs hanging over her forehead; nowadays, however, Kari prefers to keep her bangs in a sideswept style, pinning them to the right side of her forehead to blend them with the two longer strands on either side of her face.
Casually, Kari tends to dress in very light, almost bright colours, though her two most favourite colours to use in a scheme are varying shades of pink and light yellow. At times, she will be seen with a light pink ascot around her neck, a remnant of her younger years. As well, she will sometimes throw in white clothing garments, or even a whitish, almost ivory beret on her head.
While Kari's clothing style tends to vary for casual wear, but most of the time - especially when in the Digital World - Kari is seen in a white and pink sleeveless top. The top had a turtleneck design, with the top half and the collar a pink fuschia colour, and the bottom half a shade of plain white. Upon her lower extremeties, Kari wears a pair of tight-seeming yellow shorts, comfortable and easy to move in, as running in the Digital World is not an uncommon occurence. These shorts reach to about Kari's mid-thigh or so, and are held by a plain brown leather belt around her waist.
For footwear, Kari dons a pair of zip-up sneakers, in a shade of salmon with a white cap over the toe area. She will also wear white knee-high socks. As well, Kari is almost always seen with a digital camera around her neck, showing her love for photography and how useful it can actually be in determining things during battles and such. She will also occasionally don a pair of pink sleeveless gloves that reach up to her mid-bicep, in the same shade of pink as her top.
Personality:
Hikari often comes off as a kind, soft girl, the type of girl you would expect that couldn't hurt a fly, and to an extent, that is exactly who she is. She is not the type of person to intentionally offend or insult a person, respecting the feelings of others in numerous situations. As well, she is quite selfless, preferring to avoid dangerous confrontations if necessary. Hikari prefers to avoid battling if at all possible; she knows that people get hurt in those sorts of instances, and as such wants to prevent it from happening at all costs.
Kari is also the type of girl that takes pride in helping people. Contrary to her soft nature, when someone asks for her help, she is willing to give it, and while it can sometimes be a trick to her - as with her first enounter with the World of Darkness - and cause her trouble, she will never cease to help someone in need.
Because she knows that Daisuke has quite the crush on her, Kari herself likes to "take advantage of that", in a sense; she will often take the time to tease Daisuke whenever she gets the chance, usually by flirting with Takeru. Although she is more attached to Takeru - simply because of how well they know each other - she also harbors some feelings for Daisuke, finding herself rather indecisive between either of them if she were to be confronted to make such a choice.
This playful nature, however, also extends to her older brother, Tai. As she is quite strongly bonded with him through their sibling relationship, Kari likes to take any chance she can to tease her brother, mostly about Sora. She's also a bit nosy into things that seem "suspicious" that he might be doing; one instance was the letter he wrote to Sora before the Diaboromon attack, in which Kari sent the letter for him unknowing who it was being sent to.
Kari's timid nature is one of the most visible traits to her personality, especially when it comes to the World of Darkness and the encounters she's had from it. Kari is easily frightened by many things, and although these things extent much further than just the occasional spider or such, Kari will actually shut down in fear at times, which only causes issues in the long run.
It is because of this timid nature, however, that Kari is easily affected by the World of Darkness. In times of dire stress and when she is afraid of things, Kari may sometimes have the tendency to literally freeze in fear, rendering her helpless to anything incoming unless there is someone who is able to help her recover from her mental freeze.
As well, Hikari is often over-reliant on her older brother, Tai, many times wishing he was around in the Digital World to offer advice. While it is essentially a good thing for her to look up to her brother, she is still over-reliant on him for certain things, although she tries to do her best despite his not being around.
History:
Kari's first encounter with a Digimon is one that is partially memorable and partially not. Kari was only five years old at the time of the incident. One night, Kari had woken up and seen strange flashing lights from her dad's computer. A curious child, she had gone to investigate what it was. Her brother, on his fourth trip to the bathroom that night, found her in front of her father's computer, and right before their eyes, a DigiEgg came out of the computer.
From the egg soon hatched a Botamon, which at first was not very friendly to her brother, but became a quick friend to Kari. Once it digivolved to Koromon, it became even friendlier with Kari; Kari herself, who was a bit of a shy child, would actually speak to Koromon, something which even her brother wouldn't receive, as Kari only chose to "speak" to him by using the whistle she always wore around her neck. That night, the Koromon digivolved into Agumon, and Kari herself rode on Agumon as they ran around the city streets. Soon, however, a second - and much larger - DigiEgg appeared, and from this hatched a Parrotmon.
Agumon, sensing the danger, underwent another Digivolution and Digivolved into Greymon in order to protect Kari, and eventually fought with the Parrotmon. However, Greymon was soon knocked down, with Parrotmon preparing the final blow for the Greymon. Frightened that Greymon would be hurt, Kari made futile attempts to blow her whistle to wake him up, crying while doing so. However, her attempts to blow the whistle were completely futile, as she was coughing from the dust in the air due to the collapsed roadway that had been above them. Her brother, Tai, soon came to the rescue, wrenching the whistle from her hands and blowing it loud enough to awaken Greymon.
After Greymon recovered, there was a short end to the battle between Greymon and Parrotmon, and the both of them were soon warped back to the Digital World. The incident labeled Tai and Kari as two of the eight DigiDestined; six others by the names of Sora, T.K., Matt, Mimi, Izzy, and Joe had also seen the battle between Greymon and Parrotmon, and were also considered DigiDestined.
Not long after the incident, Kari was home sick with an apparent cold. While her brother was supposed to be taking care of her, they went outside, Tai kicking around a soccer ball and under the impression that Kari was feeling better. When Kari tried to play soccer with him, however, she collapsed, and was soon rushed to the hospital. It wasn't long before she was diagnosed with pneumonia, and was in the hospital for weeks, nearly dying from the incident. Although it was, essentially, her brother's fault for not taking proper care of her while she was ill, Kari felt that it was her own fault for not being able to play soccer properly, as she did not understand the incident at the time.
Five years later, while her brother was at camp, all of the DigiDestined minus Kari were sent to the Digital World for the first time, encountering their Digimon and receiving their Digivices. Kari, however, didn't come in until later - she had been home sick with the flu while her brother was at camp - when Myotismon was looking for the eighth DigiDestined, which turned out to be Kari. Coming to the real world searching for the eighth member of the Japan DigiDestined team, Myotismon was accompanied by Gatomon, who was - unbeknownst to anyone - Kari's Digimon.
Gatomon was the first of Myotismon's minions to find out that Kari was the eighth DigiDestined, and therefore sought her out to kill her. Before Gatomon could kill her, however, she lost her balance, and at first could not figure out why she was unable to kill Kari under Myotismon's orders. Wizardmon, who was a friend of Gatomon's, revealed that Kari's Digimon familiar was indeed the Champion-level Gatomon, to which Myotismon was furious about once he found out.
As a result, Myotismon captured Gatomon and subjected her to abuse, trying to use the Digimon to lure out Kari. Wanting to stop the bloodshed, Kari turned herself in, despite the protests from Gatomon and the seven other DigiDestined, as well as their Digimon. Just as Myotismon was about to kill Kari, however, Wizardmon stepped in and took the fatal blow, which anguished Gatomon. In the meanwhile, DemiDevimon had stolen Kari's Digivice when Tai had attempted to throw it to her, but Wizardmon's death caused the Digivice to glow and DemiDevimon to no longer be able to hold on to it. Once receiving her Digivice, Gatomon was able to Digivolve into Angewoman to defeat Myotismon using the powers of the other Digimon and her Celestial Arrow, and aided in the defeat of his resurrected form, VenomMyotismon; as part of a prophecy, Angewomon, along with the help of Angemon, shot Matt and Tai - T.K.'s and Hikari's brothers, respectively - in order to allow MetalGarurumon and WarGreymon to defeat VenomMyotismon.
After the battle, the eight DigiDestined returned to the Digital World to defeat the Dark Masters. While they were in the Digital World, a strange spirit was using Kari as a medium to communicate, although Kari herself was the only one with the ability to communicate with the spirit itself. At various times the spirit would speak and act through her body, aiding the DigiDestined. This spirit also helped her to lead a revolt, causing her to be known as "Queen Kari" by the Numemon.
During the final confrontation with Piedmon, Kari and T.K. were the only ones not turned into keychains or dolls, much unlike the other DigiDestined. Kari herself was frightened, but her fear was enough of a drive for T.K. to summon Angemon as his higher form: MagnaAngemon. With the Dark Masters defeated, Kari and the other DigiDestined returned to the real world.
Kari also returned once to the Digital World and gave up her Crest power in order to free the Sovereigns; this meant that Gatomon no longer had the ability to transform into Angewomon.
Three years later, Kari was once again reunited with Gatomon in the Digital World, where they learned that there were four new DigiDestined - Yolei, Davis, Cody, and Ken - who all received new Digivices, known as D-3's. Upon being reunited with Gatomon in the Digital World, Kari learns that Gatomon lost her tail ring when she was attacked by a Unimon under the control of a DigiDestined [Ken] who was calling himself the Digimon Emperor. The loss of Gatomon's tail ring greatly reduced her power, rendering her about as strong as a Rookie level Digimon while in her Champion form.
Because of Ken's black Digivice, all of the original DigiDestined are unable to digivolve with their Digimon; Yolei, Cody, and Davis, however, were able to Armor Digivolve with their Digimon and therefore save the Digimon in the Digital World that had been enslaved through the use of Ken's Dark Rings.
After battling the Digimon Emperor for some time - Kari in the meanwhile having her old Digivice modified into a D-3 and receiving the Digimental of Light, allowing Gatomon to Digivolve into Nefertimon - Kari became affected by the World of Darkness, eventually being pulled from the real world into it. In the World of Darkness she found creatures that looked like Hangyomon who wished to lead a revolt against their master, who had created a Dark Tower in their world. Once T.K., Patamon, and Gatomon found Kari, she was able to have Gatomon - still without her tail ring - Digivolve into Angewomon and destroy the Dark Tower and its guardian, Airdramon. The tower, however, was actually a trick; the Hangyomon, sensing the darkness within Kari, wanted her to become their Queen and mate with their leader, Dagomon. However, with the aid of her friends she was able to avoid such an instance and return to the real world.
Later on, Hikari was once again sucked into the influence of the World of Darkness, but this time she accidentally dragged Yolei, Hawkmon, and Gatomon with her. There, they encountered Ken, whom they did not know was the Digimon Emperor they'd been fighting against. When Yolei started making remarks because she felt out of place, Kari slapped her to allow her to regain herself, and was summarily slapped back in a later instance where the darkness began to get the better of Kari. Both then agreed that they wanted to be like the other, and with their hearts in sync, Gatomon and Aquilamon were able to DNA Digivolve into Silphymon.
Kari was invited to Ken's Christmas party on Christmas Eve, a party that didn't end up lasting all too long. Soon after it started, the DigiDestined were forced to send rampaging Digimon back to the Digital World, and with the help of Qinglongmon, they were able to send them back. It was then that they found out that all of the gates to the Digital World were open all over the world, and Kari was sent with Izzy to aid the Chinese DigiDestined in sending rampaging Digimon back to the Digital World.
Kari played a rather large role in battling against Daemon and the Demon Corps, helping Ken to open a gate to the World of Darkness to banish Daemon to it. They succeeded in banishing Daemon to the World of Darkness, however, Daemon's boss, Oikawa Yukio, managed to escape. Yukio also left twenty children who had Demon Seeds sown into their necks behind for the DigiDestined to deal with.
Hikari and the rest of the DigiDestined then went searching for the children with the Demon Seeds, eventually finding out that Yukio was possessed by the spirit of VenomMyotismon, who then absorbed the power of the Dark Seeds in order to gain a corporeal form. He killed two of his subordinates, an act which frightened Hikari and the others. As Davis and X-Veemon tried to fight back, Hikari was shown an illusion of her greatest desire: for the real world and the Digital World to coexist peacefully with each other. The illusion was soon broken by Gatomon's explanation of it not being real. Once everyone's illusions had been broken, Kari used the power from the dream dimension against VenomMyotismon, with Angewomon, Gatomon, Nefertimon, and Siphylmon all appearing at the same time to fight against VenomMyotismon. Once VenomMyotismon escaped to the Digital World, the light from Kari's digivice weakened him and therefore powered up Imperialdramon Fighter Mode's Giga Death Cannon.

Kari stretched and yawned as she woke up on the first morning of summer break, the first day in a fairly long while that she'd been able to sleep in for once. Gatomon had come from the Digital World for a little while to visit, which meant she was half curled up beside Kari's pillow, close to the wall. Kari heard movement in the hallway and the sound of her brother's snoring from the next room over, which meant that she clearly wasn't the only one awake by now.
Reaching under her pillow, Kari pulled out her D-Terminal to check whether she had mail or not, and was somewhat surprised when she did. She'd have thought everyone was sleeping still at this point!
"Looks like I've got mail," she commented to no one in particular, though Gatomon clearly couldn't help commenting on it herself.
"You get more mail than I've got grains of kitty litter," Gatomon commented, and Kari couldn't help but laugh. Gatomon sure had a tendency to make some pretty interesting comments, especially along the lines like that. She noted that the mail was from T.K., asking if she had anything planned for the day. Now that she thought about it... She couldn't think of any plans she'd made for the day, which meant that she was free to do anything. Sending a quick email back detailing such, Kari clambered down from her bed and quickly got herself dressed so she'd at least look presentable for the day.
As she was running a brush through her hair and sliding a bobby pin into place in order to keep her bangs from falling into her face, Kari heard her D-Terminal going off again with another email, and her, quick to get to it as ever, automatically went to check it. It was another email back from T.K., asking her if she wanted to.. Spend the day on the beach in the Digital World? She actually kind of liked that idea, because that way there wouldn't be other people to get on their nerves. With the MaloMyotismon attack a year in the past and the Digital and Real Worlds at peace for the time being, it was rather nice to be able to traverse the Digital World without fear of having to accomplish something as one of the DigiDestined.
"What's the plan for today, Kari?" Gatomon asked as Kari began to pack her bag. She thought it would be a good idea to at least pack some snacks... Good thing she always kept a small stash hidden for trips to the Digital World.
"T.K. wants to go to the Digital World and spend some time on the beach," Kari explained with a smile. "I'm pretty sure Patamon will be there, too, so the both of you can have some fun as well." Gatomon smiled back in response, and Kari continued to pack her bag, soon leaving the room to find something to eat for breakfast. It wouldn't do for her to leave on an empty stomach, now would it? She guessed that her brother wouldn't be up yet, which meant she'd probably be gone by the time he got up, too.
"Morning, mom," Kari greeted with a wave as she took one of the buns from the bag sitting on the kitchen table.
"Good morning, Kari, would you like to try one of my bran cakes? They're really good," she offered, but Kari only waved the offer off. Knowing her mom, the recipe would probably be something... Interesting. She'd only heard stories from her brother and Izzy, but she didn't want to have to experience it for herself should it turn out to be as bad as they said it was.
"That's okay, Mom, I'll be fine. I'm going to hang out with T.K. for the day, so I'll probably be gone for quite a while," I said, munching a little more on the bun. Feeling satisfied enough, Kari went back to her room and glanced at Gatomon, who was up on her dresser and grooming her fur with her clawed gloves.
"What are you doing, Gatomon?" Kari queried, tilting her head to the side as she watched Gatomon in the mirror and zipped her bag closed at the same time.
"Just trying out a new look, that's all. Looking good takes a long time, after all," she replied, and Kari smiled.
"Well, we should get going if we're going to meet T.K. at the school, so make sure you look like a ragdoll while we leave the house. Otherwise my mom might ask questions," Kari replied as she picked Gatomon up and held her under the arms, her own hands crossed over Gatomon's stomach.
"Bye Mom, see you later!" Kari said as she ran out of the house in an eager manner and began to make her way towards the school.
