Digivolution
__________________________________________________________________
Digivolution is the concept that as a Digimon gains data from the environment around them and, over time, make themselves stronger. Eventually they are able to “evolve” to a new level, gaining new skills and abilities in the process. They retain the same consciousness, however, even if they have a new look to them. Also, if not enough data is gotten, they may revert back to an earlier form. There are seven main evolutionary steps:
Digitama
Baby
In-Training
Rookie
Champion
Ultimate
Mega
Normally Digimon naturally age and will over time digivolve to higher levels. Each stage takes a longer amount of time to do so. Sometimes circumstances such as anger and/or survival instincts may allow a temporary digivolve to a higher stage. When defeated and killed, a Digimon will either revert to a Digitama or be absorbed by the Digimon that destroyed them.
When bonded with a human, however, Digivolution occurs much faster. Using a Digivice allows the human to share energy with the Digimon, causing almost instantaneous Digivolving for a temporary amount of time. The energy required is large, however, and if the Digimon is tired, hungry, or injured it may not work. For both natural and human-induced Digivolution, enough injury may cause the Digimon to revert to a lower level.
Below are the various kinds of Digivolutions that may occur:
__________________________________________________________________
Digivolve
This is the naturally occurring and/or human induced Digivoling that was described above. This is the most common form of Digivolving that may occur. Remember, for Digivolving involving human-Digimon connections, Digivolution beyond the Rookie form is usually a temporary status that is affected by how tired, hungry, and injured the Digimon is.
For the Rookie->Champion level evolution, usually a strong bond between child and Digimon is required. Said evolution usually occurs during a moment of crisis, such as a Digimon attack or the endangerment of the partner.
For the Champion->Ultimate level evolution, in the past the use of a crest or another object (such as the DigiCore of Azulongmon) was usually required to allow it. With the removal of these items, however, Ultimate level (and by extension Mega level) is currently unavailable to the Digidestined.
An example of this kind of Digivolving is Agumon->Greymon->MetalGreymon->WarGreymon
Dark Digivolve
Dark Digivolve is a corrupt form of normal Digivolving. It occurs when a partner to a Digimon forcefully attempts to make a Digimon Digivolve, usually involving corrupt, angered thoughts. It may also occur when a Digivolution occurs using dark power. Digimon Digivolved through this method are evil and perceive nothing but an urge to destroy. This makes it a very dangerous form of Digivolving and is not recommended.
An example of this kind of Digivolving is Greymon->SkullGreymon
Armor Digivolve
Armor Digivolve is a form of Digivolving that uses a Digimental to Digivolve. It was an old form of Digivolving that was recently used to bypass the Control Spires built by the Digimon Emperor. The Digimon resulting from this form of Digivolving are usually, in strength, around the same as a Champion level. A Chosen Child activates Armor Digivolution by shouting “Digi-Armor Energize!”
For a list of Digimentals, see the “DigiItems” thread. Note that a character CANNOT start off with a Digimental or Armor Evolution (minus canons who have them).
An example of this form of Digivolution is Veemon->Flamedramon using the Digimental of Courage
DNA Digivolve
DNA Digivolve (also called Jogress Evolution) is a form of Digivolving that combines two Digimon into one, usually of a higher level. Both consciousnesses are combined into one, and when speaking the Digimon has the voice of both the original Digimon uttered at the same time. In the past it required the use of Gatomon’s Holy Ring to allow this, but with it being returned to Gatomon it is no longer capable as of now.
Note that for a character to have a DNA Digivolve, it must have a strong bond with the other person whose Digimon is involved in the DNA. They must also have the permission of the other character as well.
An example of this form of Digivolving is ExVeemon+Stingmon=Paildramon
Warp Digivolve
Warp Digivolve is simply a normal Digivolve, except the Digimon goes from the Rookie straight to the Mega level. A similar situation can occur with DNA Digivolving. Usually it’s not a straight shot to the Mega level but a quick Digivolving from the Rookie through the intermittent stages to Mega.
An example of this form of Digivolving is Agumon->WarGreymon
Mode Change
Mode Change occurs when a Digimon shifts from one form to another. It’s not a true Digivolution, but a simple shift into a different version of its current form. The new form is usually more powerful and has new abilities and skills.
An example of this form of Digivolving is Imperialdramon to Imperialdramon Fighter Mode.
